Lubricant guide: water, silicone or oil-based – which one to choose?
Share
A good lubricant improves any intimate moment, alone or with a partner: more comfort, more sensitivity and less friction. But they're not all made for the same thing. Here are the differences so you can choose well.
Water-based lubricants
The most versatile. Compatible with all toys and condoms, easy to clean and non-staining. Their only downside is that they absorb faster, so you may need to reapply.
Ideal for: everyday use, silicone toys, beginners.
Silicone-based lubricants
They last much longer and are perfect in water (shower, bath). They're compatible with latex condoms, but not recommended with silicone toys, as they can damage the surface.
Ideal for: long sessions, massage, sex in water.
Oil-based lubricants
Very slippery and pleasant for massage, but not compatible with latex condoms (they can break them) and more likely to stain.
Ideal for: massage and external use without condoms.
Lubricants with effects
- Warming or cooling: add new sensations.
- Flavoured: designed for oral sex.
- Anal: thicker and longer-lasting for extra comfort.
